FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DO I DO?

Purchasing and getting an air-conditioning system installed can be a daunting and overwhelming process.

With all the jargon associated, it can be difficult to figure out what you may want or need.

DO NOT PANIC!

In this section, we have broken down the most common questions that customers ask us before they proceed with purchasing and installing an air-conditioning system for their home. Please have a look at our Frequently Asked Questions so you can familiarise yourself with some of the terminology and some of the options you have available when looking at air-conditioning.

  • WHAT IS A SPLIT SYSTEM?

A split system air conditioner is one that is typically mounted on your wall to provide cooling and/or heating to your specified room.

These systems are generally cheaper and easier to install as they are more compact and provide targeted comfort in the home.

  • WHAT IS A DUCTED SYSTEM?

A ducted system is one that provides comfort throughout the whole house (or specified zones) for you and your family.

These systems are generally more expensive and require a little bit of customisation to suit your home and your comfort needs.

  • WHAT DOES REVERSE CYCLE MEAN?

Reverse cycle in air conditioning means that the system is designed to do both heating and cooling. This means that choosing a reverse cycle air conditioning will be beneficial for you and your family all-year round.

Cooling to be used when the weather gets hotter and stickier, and heating to be used when the temperature cools and you have already put on 3 layers of clothing at home.

  • WHAT DOES INVERTER MEAN?

All air conditioning systems now come as a fully inverter system, meaning the air conditioning system will be more energy saving when you are using it. Inverter technology is when your air conditioner knows to regulate the temperature as well as the air flow to reach the desired set point.

Once the desired set point has been reached, the inverter technology kicks in and slows down the major operation of the system so that you are not consuming or using more electricity.

  • SHOULD I PURCHASE A SPLIT OR DUCTED SYSTEM?

In order to make an informed decision, you must analyse your home comfort needs. Ask yourself a few questions first so we can identify what it is that you need:

    • Is there a particular room that gets very hot or very cold?

    • Is there a particular room that the family spends the most time in?

    • Am I on a budget and looking to save?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these, then a split system would be more suitable for your needs.

If you are interested in getting a split system, please check out our online store for prices or consult our friendly team for prices and installation.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

So if that’s the case, what are the benefits of installing a ducted system instead?

    Ask yourself these questions:

    • Does every room in the house get used?

    • Do I want to get air conditioning installed for multiple rooms?

    • Am I planning to live in this property for the next 5-10 years?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider getting a ducted system as it will save you costs in the long-term, and provide comfort throughout the whole house.

If you are interested in getting a ducted system installed, please consult with us over the phone, via email, or even in our office so we can tailor the installation job to suit your home comfort needs exclusively.

  • ARE THERE ANY ADD-ONS I SHOULD GET?

Air conditioner usage trends vary between each household. Because of this variation, we cannot give you a definite answer on what is right and what is wrong.

Here is a small breakdown of what add-ons are available if you wish to do so:

    Split systems:

    • Optional Wi-Fi (if the unit does not have built-in Wi-Fi capability already)

This allows your system to connect to your Wi-Fi network at home, meaning you can control your system remotely as long as both your mobile and air-con are connected to the internet.

Controlling your system remotely will allow you to turn your system on or off no matter where you are.

For example, it is a blistering hot day in the office, you are exhausted and just want to go home and sit on the couch and hop on the PlayStation. The moment you’ve clocked out, you can open up your phone to turn the air-con to cool your room down so by the time you’re home, you don’t have to wait around to get comfortable.

    Ducted Systems:

    • Zoning (Selecting specific rooms to have the air-con unit running)

Getting zones in your house is ideal if you have multiple people in and out of the house or just generally moving around the house often.

    • Optional Wi-Fi

As mentioned above, Wi-Fi for ducted and split work in similar fashion. You can access your system remotely to turn your air con on or off on the fly.

  • HOW MUCH WARRANTY DO I GET WITH MY AIR-CON?

Most of, if not, all air conditioning units nowadays come with a 5-year manufacturer warranty.

The manufacturer warranty covers any issues regarding the air conditioning unit such as faults and damages.

If the air conditioning unit is purchased and installed by Blue Star Air Conditioning, we provide a full comprehensive 5-year warranty that covers both manufacturer faults as well as installation faults.
